Just For Men, manufactured by Combe International, has marketed a popular line of permanent hair dye products for quite some time. The product can be used to cover graying hair on your head, beards, sideburns, and mustaches.
Several men have reported serious injuries after using the Just For Men product, some requiring medical treatment. In some instances, these injuries occurred immediately following use and in other instances the injuries developed several days later. Some have utilized Just For Men for years without incident, and later reported suffering from serious chemical burns from the product.
A main ingredient in Just For Men is p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), a chemical which has been known to pose severe health risks. In fact, in 2006, PPD was named “Contact Allergen of the Year” by the American Contact Dermatitis Society [Paraphenylenediamine]. A 2001 study also showed that the sensitivity rate of African-American users nearly doubled when using PPD in comparison to Caucasian users [Phenylenediamine Study].
Currently the Just For Men Product has not been pulled off of the market. Combe International continues to sell the product despite the repeated reports of men suffering from severe permanent injuries.
